*250 - Looking for "Pay for Biomedical Science in Malaysia"?

Something surprised me on the analytics provided by Nuffnang for my blog... i got a search hit on "pay for biomedical science in Malaysia"...

Actually i didnt really wrote about pay for biomedical science graduate in my blog b4... i just rant before that the pay for biomedical science graduate isnt good enough for me... mayb that's the keywords that attracted the hit... This led me wanted to share wat i knew with all my readers here...

Disclaimer: im going into my final year and obviously i havent really graduated yet... all info i shared here is solely experience and counseling i got from seniors, lecturers, friends and forum... may not be 100% accurate but it will be a good reference for ya... if u found any of my infos were wrong or any good infos to share, feel free to leave comments in this post... we as biomedical science students need inputs from the experienced :)

As a biomedical science degree graduate... wat u really can do with it? Most ppl will go into sales and marketing... promoting pharmaceutical drugs, biomedical research equipment and kits... One of my senior is working in this industry and his basic is rm2k... but it comes with a lucrative commission from sales volume... if u're hardworking enough, u can pump until rm6k in no time...

Another choice is to work in pathology labs and diagnostic labs... For those ppl that dont really like to deal with ppl (you shouldnt be), this is a good choice for ya, u;ll be doing lab job, routine and stable income of rm1.8k-2.8k is achievable... One of my fren went enquiring in a private well-known pathology lab, they offer him rm3k including all the allowance... About the same pay goes to the insurance underwriter...

Let's say we further our studies, im sure there's some fellowship programme that u can apply to... in my uni, we can get rm1.5k as allowance with fee exemption if we successfully applied for the Graduate Research Fellowship... Seems quite good to me...

As a junior lecturer after u finish ur phD... (the info i got quite surprise me) we will be only having rm3k-rm4k as a start (basic la, dont worry)... or an experienced phD will be at 5k-6k... and only after that u hav to climb ur own ladder to more than rm10k or even rm20k as a professor... That will be at least 40 years old i think O.o

You can read more at:
Lowyat.net: Lecturer's salary and prospect in Malaysia
Boardreader: How much can a lecturer with phD earn?

Im certain that one can always do better than these... these were just an average guide... Go out and strive ur best to achieve your goals!

*203 - Grandest 1Malaysia Raya Open House!

My family was invited by my mum's student to their Raya open house... Its inside a kampung near my house...

We followed the direction given... until we saw one big house in the middle of no where O.o We'd reach the place i guess...

How i wish my house got a field that are enough to be a car park for events like this... @@

My mum's student is totally a 1malaysia product xD he got an Indian father (and a very young one!), Malay mother, siblings attending chinese schools... Wow...

I saw whole Malaysia there... with the concept of Muhibbah... the crowd invited are multi racial... Malays, Indians, Chinese... It feels so warming...

Had very good food too... There's mutton and beef satay, rendang mutton, indian style vege, to go with nasi briyani and pampadum, while on the other side there are BBQ whole lamb available :)'' Yummy~

And the surprise i had is this... i pi jalan jalan then i saw his garage...

A Merc, an Alphard.... and even the Porsche Cayenne is quite common on the road... but i saw this very very very low height car... From far i still thought i saw a Lamborghini... i was wrong....

Its not!!! Saw the LOGO???? Yes! Its a Ferrari under the cover...... Holy shit... I never expect to hav a Ferrari here inside the kampung O.o (its not the latest Ferrari... but still its a Ferrari right? :/)

ps: Marrying his daughter will be a good option (quite pretty too u know)... LOL :P

*175 - Selamat Berpuasa!

Its the puasa month again! So to all muslims, Selamat Berpuasa!

I used to love puasa month a lot... especially the last 2 years when im staying in my hostel, college 17th UPM... So wat's so best about puasa month to a non-muslim like me?

The Night-life! Not the night-life u thought off... The other kind of nightlife... This is the month where at 3am u feel things are still "so happening" in college... Many were still awake... Hunting for food b4 morning... N i joined the fun! u'll sure see me in college cafe at 3am having my supper... Still remember my favourite very-heavy Roti Zam Zam! XD

Next, The Bazaar! There's this ramadhan bazaar for Buka Puasa at Sri Serdang there tat sure tempt my appetite... Roti John... Ayam bakar... Macam-macam pun ade!

Now tat i had moved out... So i guess there's no more Zam Zam for me... and i'll really miss k17 for tat :/

So i guess the conclusion its still the FOOD then :D Come n think about it... the best thing for a multi-racial country is to celebrate all the festivals together and enjoy every cultural FOOD! ^^

*165 - Extra Lecture To Share 1

30.07.2009

For the very 1st time i attended extra seminar and talk organized in my faculty, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM... A new breakthrough i guess...

It is a talk on prevention and control of H1N1 by Dr. Malina Osman from Microbiology and Parasitology Department of my faculty in the main lecture hall... i'll like to share some with u all here...

I complaint before on my previous post b4 tat a private hospital charge rm500 for a throat swab for h1n1 screening... and now i know why... The diagnosis of h1n1 is carried out by PCR or polymerase chain reaction... And those taq polymerase and restriction enzyme arent cheap at all... No doubt government also cant provide throat swab to every suspecting patients...

Next is about the vaccine that u read from the newspaper... Gov expecting it to be available in Malaysia at Nov... But according to Dr. Malina, it is just a vaccine for seasonal flu and its not a h1n1 specific vaccine... Thus we can say tat the effectiveness of the vaccine on h1n1 havent really established yet... Anyway, still better than none right?

Dr. Malina also said tat, recently, a research paper published that potential h1n1 vaccine had been discovered... The problem is by standard procedure from WHO, it needs 2 years to verify the safety of the vaccine... so i guess that when the vaccine got approved, we are having another type of flu edi... aiks...

A very bad news is now the hospitals are full of patients, with deprivation of tamiflu and manpower while our death toll is rising... As a reminder, prevention is better than cure... Go learn on H1N1 prevention for your own sake...

*163 - Stupid Red Tape & Counters

How best i spent 3 hours in Kastam to collect my parcels =.=

I'd been asked to go from counter 1, to room 2, then counter 5, then 6, then back to room 2, then counter 4, then 5, bla bla bla................ O.o still a long list...

The best is when they ask me to verify my items at the pharmacy department... The pharmacy department is at the opposite building... and for ur information, the opposite building is NOT so near n its unpractical to walk there =.=

At the Pharmacy department, “u kena fotostat ini borang satu copy untuk saya" ok... so i ask where i can get a photostat service... The place tat suppose i can get my photostated copy said "Rosak, boleh try kat jabatan lain", then the jabatan-lain said "takde photostat, pergi tingkat 3" bla bla bla, then i get a piece of photostat for 20cents................ O.o

They are using an ONLINE kastam system... and 1st thought was... wow... Malaysia so high tech... but next thing i saw beside me is a piece of paper saying "terima kasih kerana sabar menunggu, boring kastam akan diproses dalam 20-30 minit bergantung kepada server online kastam" WTF O.o

Why cant they make things more efficient a bit? I was holding a pile of 10 papers at least with my item sample running up n down... They waste papers for all sorts of borang, waste ppl's time, waste energy, waste this waste that... Arrgghh! And they are using a computerized ONLINE system =.=

*130 - Something To Be Proud Of From PROTON

Its from the “Proton Exora - The Making” seminar organized by SAE International last week in Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang... Introducing 2 very promising prototype from Proton:

1. Proton Saga EV Green Propulsion Concept
Its the 1st Electric Powerplant from Proton and proudly 100% home-grown in Malaysia! Its done by few unnamed local suppliers and partners. No emission, a total GREEN vehicle. This is a huge breakthrough for Proton...

2. Proton Exora Prestige Turbo Prototype
Its an Turbo engine built here too without the input from Lotus. Its compiled from after-market turbo parts. It’s useful to test the durability and reliability of a Campro block when force inducted.

*116 - Science and Maths In BM. WTF!

Let's try something on my Parasitology...

BI:
1. Invasion of endothelium (inner wall or mucosal layer of large instestine) causing primary lesion called ulcer.
2. Complications - amoebic granoloma (amoeboma), appendicitis, stricture (adhesion), intestinal perforation etc.

BM:
1. Endothelia diserang (dinding dalam atau lapisan mucosa usus besar) menyebabkan lesion pertama yang bernama ulcer.
2. Komplikasi - granoloma ameba (ameboma), apendisitis, pengecutan (perlekatan), perforasi atau pecah usus dan lain lain.

WTF is tat? Its total Bull Shit!

Do u think science and maths can be taught in Malay? Yeah... i knw... u all did it for so long... i too had my secondary science in BM... but it took me hell to understand the english scientific terms after im in form 6... y dont we start earlier... Mayb since form 1?

Frankly ur BM got no use in the scientific world... Yaya... its the national language... So... lets juz learn it as the national language to communicate among races... Wat i think is, its sufficient to enable us to communicate with each other:

Ah Kao: Encik, boleh bagi saya satu kilo sayur bayam?
Ali: Boleh... Satu kilo seringgit... Nak bungkus ke?

But not:
Prof Ali: Pada satu masa, parasit akan lahir menjadi tropozoid dalam usus besar dan menyerang dinding usus itu...

In my opinion, the best is let the primary stop the PPSMI... Chinese school learn maths and science in chinese, tamil school in tamil and etc... They still hav BM class and english class wat... Then Secondary... We still also will hav BM class... But Science and Maths in English... Certainly will help them in a lot in their tertiary education... My mum as a primary teacher said all her colleague suppport this too... This is wat the rakyat wants...

Dont believe its wat we want? Check out Tun Dr Mahathir's Personal Online Poll bout this on his blog... To date, its 60244 votes (86%) tat wans English back and a mere 10058 (14%) ppl wans in BM... Go cast ur vote too... Let the government know wat we are thinking through our strongman here...

BM may unite Malaysia but BI will unite the world... Think about tat...

Disclaimer: I dont oppose learning BM... BM is essential to live in Malaysia!

*115 - Matriculation: Only Ticket To The U?

What's after ur SPM? STPM? Please... No! Dont kill urself!

U know why im writing this post? Firstly, there are only a few STPM students getting into Biomed this year. Secondly, there's only one STPM student (indian) got enrolled into Medicine UPM. Third, there's only tiny winy no. of chinese in the first year... Where STPM goes? Where all the chinese goes?

As a STPM graduate, i can say tat its never easy to study STPM. If u scored well like 3.92 or 3.83, u still wont be able to get the course tat u wan... Even if u can prove urself to be so good in STPM by getting a 4.0, u still not guaranteed to get medicine... So why go for STPM at all? Its meaningless now...

STPM suppose to be the main path or the typical way to enter local university. And its standard used to stood high above any other examination in the world. But wat happen now is, with the same killer-paper, u hav to compete with the new system, called the Malaysian Matriculation =.= WTF

Something i dont understand here. A matric physic student is able to enroll himself into medicine program O.o Do u wan to be consult by a doctor tat actually only knows about chips and wires? The statistic of failed medicine students here is mostly from the Matric, mostly, go n check! Why is this happening? Do u smell something fishy on the Matric system?

I think i dont hav to cont. writing cause im sure it wont be heard by the MOE or some authorities. And only u and i, the students aware tat our local university standard will constantly be dropping while the rich will do better in private institution like IMU etc.

For u, my fellow juniors... Get into Matriculation and get a stupid 4.0 or leave to join the private college... Never dig ur own grave in STPM... Luckily im still not buried yet =.=

*107 - Great News Feeds: Malaysian's Pride

Its a news i got to know from Mei Fong's blog... Im spreading the news as requested :)

This news is dated on 5th of March 2009 and we Malaysians are not very aware of this... Im sad to say that there's far too less media coverage on social justice and human rights achievements... The winning of an award on the international platform is left uncovered... Sounds like the Malaysian arent really proud of her huh? I'll like to cheer for Ms Ambiga... Join me! Im sure its a proud news for the Malaysian... Spread the words...

*95 - Malaysia H1N1 Outbreak Got Kicked Off

Cant believe it... its juz a few case last week... to 39... till 42... and 49... and NOW 68 O.o I guess H1N1 just caused a panic in the country as 4 schools got closed off and hundreds under quarantined...

I personally feels that we had an outbreak in Malaysia due to the typical mindset of Malaysians... Ask urself... Will u go to see a doctor and got urself quarantined for days aftertat? Mostly no... The awareness of Malaysian on healthcare is very very low... Everyone thinks tat its ok to juz rest at home while having the flu symptoms will eventually lead to the spread of the virus to ur family, neighbours and then community... Check urself every now and then to prevent the spreading of the virus! Even if u r unfortunate enough to get infected, plz think of others too...

My dad brought up a scenario yest... Imagine one of ur factory worker got infected... Then government ordered a quarantine of the whole factory... Factory closed for business a week or so... tat's bad enough... But after u resume ur business... what would ur customer think? "Hey.. ur salesman better dont come to see me man... u will get my workers infected too!" So... prevention is the best measure!

Get urself a HEPA mask before the supply runs out and increases of price...
Unless u wanna go totally GREEN and get this 100% WATERMELON made mask instead O.o

*73 - Your Car Petrol, How Much Do U Know?

Did you know the octane number of the fuel selling here?
Did you know wat's the diff of each brand's fuel?
Did you know wat fuel exactly you are pumping into your car?
And finally, did you know RON95 fuel is coming and wat is it?
I guess everyone should be able to differentiate Diesel from Petrol (but somehow my college felo, En.Fahmi still manage to pump diesel into his car O.o), but it seems like 99 out of 100 doesnt know wat's the difference between petrol grades. In Sept, a new fuel RON95 will be introduce into the market and replaces RON92 fuel with some price adjustments. I think i can share a bit of wat i know here.

RON=research octane number. Most car can actually run on fuel with octane number above 91, unless you are driving a very very old car or a Lamborghini, then you may need higher RON fuel. Currently, every fuel selling in Malaysia pumps are RON92 and RON97. Both unleaded. So, wat makes the Brand diff? Some may say Shell more powerful, Petronas give better mileage etc. Its the additives added. The fuel is the same, RON92 or RON97 fuel, with diff additives.

There are many theories and rumours going around on the Shell V-Power that are priced at rm2.05. Shell website publish that V-power is a RON98 fuel. But official statement from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry state tat fuel is controlled by the government and only RON92 and 97 is available in the market which i believe so. Very reliable automotive news site Paultan.org also state that V-Power is juz a RON97 fuel with special additive mix. SO in another word, you are paying extra for the additives.

By Sept, the new fuel RON95 will be replaceing current RON92 fuel at a price hike of rm0.05 to rm1.75. While the so called "normal" RON97 fuel will be increase rm0.20 or more to at least rm2. So the question is, which fuel will you choose?

Government encourage people to use the new RON95 fuel and enjoy a lower price. I agree that. In normal cars (not those supercars of course), you wont feel the diff of RON95 and RON97 fuel, even the diff of RON92 with 97 is also neglectable. The old carburetor car may need some adjustment of the ignition timing, fuel injection cars will be "plug and play". I'll truely recommend you to use the new RON95 and save more money rather paying for the premium tat you dont need...

*57 - Negative? Make it to Positive!

SHOCKING number announced by the government. (here!) We declined 6.2% of economy in the first quarter of this year. Hey, we used to hav 6.2% growth at least in the last few years, and now -6.2% o.O Big news huh?

The loss of jobs, the horrendous stock market, inflation, and everything else that has been happening around us because of the bad economy. This can easily put anyone’s mind in the gutter. I personally believe that most people right now have a terrible mindset. You'll feel demotivated eventually.
First of all, are u a negative news junkie? Why u watch the news? You just wanna know? Or you feel contented after u saw how bad people got murdered and u are still alive? "Economy declined by 6.2%, 100000 people lost thier job" or "The 10 tons lorry carrying cow dung crash on the toll plaza in Ipoh" So, wat u get from this stories? It only give u a negative mindset bout life.

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING - “When the situation gets critical, those who aren’t weak-willed work harder and never give up.
-Joseph P. Kennedy (1888-1969), the father of (U.S.) President John F. Kennedy

Check out this true story. There are people with positive mindset that are able to workout anything out of nothing. Let me remind u this: There are more millionaires made after a bad economy then in a good economy. Its better to invest in bad economy as the cost is lower, and price always soar when economy recovers.

Im not asking u not to read or watch the news. Its just that, set ur mindset right when u got negative news, at least know wat's going on, then read more positive and constructive articles! Why not start with happynews.com? Its a great site with only positive news and articles. Latest news, ppl made an air-powered vehicle u know?

*17 - abdullah's best idea

Wow... wat a wonderful day for a shocking price hike of fuel n electricity... Oh god~ n he says: we are still having the low fuel price among south east asia countries... pls la... ppl are more educated now... u compare us wif thailand, singapore, india n we hav lowest price... great~ all hail abdullah !!!

u think we stupid?? compare it with oil producing countries n look at our price dude... where is the petronas profit from selling our petrol to other country??
juz in case u like to compare wif our neighbouring countries, singapore for example... let's see... singapore income per capita is US 25,000 ... n it's petrol price *Woops rm5.20... MALAYSIA, income per capita US 4,000 =.=, petrol selling at rm2.70... did u compare like this?? rakyat cant affort it u know...

78 cents eh... from 1.92 to 2.70 eh... 40.6% eh... wtf... it's killing me... im just a student !! wat if im running on sales?? -_-|||

let's do some maths... refering solely to my 1.5GL WIRA...
1 Full tank, rm70 --> rm98 :/
1 month petrol about rm300 --> rm 421 O.o

that one is wira only leh... n driven by a student to UPM, dinner n little entertainment... wat if it's my dad's civic that are running on sales...
1 month petrol MINIMUM, rm700 --> rm984 =.=

petrol 40.6% increase, electricity 20% increase... so wat can u think of for next month? i can see my roti canai is going to be rm1.20 at least... my lunch n dinner shrinking... a bowl of mee rm4...

y not let's make it fair, we should all sell things at "market price"... market price of the new Honda Civic is juz about rm30,000... wat a nice malaysia we hav...
