*256 - SciVerse ScienceDirect iPhone App

Yo! Been wanted to share this for quite sometime now... Was thinking to blog more since I acquired iBlogger app but somehow it didn't happen... Hmmm... Ok... I'm lazy :P

This will be a good news to all academic iPhone users... Or perhaps potential iPhone users too... In research, literature review plays a very major part... and I believe this addition to the wide range of iPhone apps indeed increases my iPhone value...

The new SciVerse ScienceDirect iPhone app is out! Best part bout it it's FOC!

"Need full-text but not at your desk? The SciVerse ScienceDirect iPhone app doesn't restrict your brainwaves to the workplace; now you can find and read any Elsevier article or book chapter while you're at a conference, travelling to and from work, or enjoying some rare downtime."

Without subscription, one shall only allowed to view a paper's abstract... but don't worry just yet... isn't ur institution subscripted to it?

What u need is just an email add under the institution's server domain... for UPM student, now u can finally visit to ur unknown or unused UPM email to access the subscription... go check out mutiara.upm.edu.my... u should have ur email of matricnumber@mutiara.upm.edu.my...

Now I understand the function of email provided by the institution... :)

*250 - Looking for "Pay for Biomedical Science in Malaysia"?

Something surprised me on the analytics provided by Nuffnang for my blog... i got a search hit on "pay for biomedical science in Malaysia"...

Actually i didnt really wrote about pay for biomedical science graduate in my blog b4... i just rant before that the pay for biomedical science graduate isnt good enough for me... mayb that's the keywords that attracted the hit... This led me wanted to share wat i knew with all my readers here...

Disclaimer: im going into my final year and obviously i havent really graduated yet... all info i shared here is solely experience and counseling i got from seniors, lecturers, friends and forum... may not be 100% accurate but it will be a good reference for ya... if u found any of my infos were wrong or any good infos to share, feel free to leave comments in this post... we as biomedical science students need inputs from the experienced :)

As a biomedical science degree graduate... wat u really can do with it? Most ppl will go into sales and marketing... promoting pharmaceutical drugs, biomedical research equipment and kits... One of my senior is working in this industry and his basic is rm2k... but it comes with a lucrative commission from sales volume... if u're hardworking enough, u can pump until rm6k in no time...

Another choice is to work in pathology labs and diagnostic labs... For those ppl that dont really like to deal with ppl (you shouldnt be), this is a good choice for ya, u;ll be doing lab job, routine and stable income of rm1.8k-2.8k is achievable... One of my fren went enquiring in a private well-known pathology lab, they offer him rm3k including all the allowance... About the same pay goes to the insurance underwriter...

Let's say we further our studies, im sure there's some fellowship programme that u can apply to... in my uni, we can get rm1.5k as allowance with fee exemption if we successfully applied for the Graduate Research Fellowship... Seems quite good to me...

As a junior lecturer after u finish ur phD... (the info i got quite surprise me) we will be only having rm3k-rm4k as a start (basic la, dont worry)... or an experienced phD will be at 5k-6k... and only after that u hav to climb ur own ladder to more than rm10k or even rm20k as a professor... That will be at least 40 years old i think O.o

You can read more at:
Lowyat.net: Lecturer's salary and prospect in Malaysia
Boardreader: How much can a lecturer with phD earn?

Im certain that one can always do better than these... these were just an average guide... Go out and strive ur best to achieve your goals!

Its the Reproductive Physiology class by Assoc Prof Dr Sabrina Sukardi again! This time she asked us to bring all ur recyclable rubbish to class...

So wat's the assignment? We hav to construct an reproductive organ according to the question given to each group. That's where we have funny creative organs popped out O.o

We hav this Jacobs biscuit UTERUS... Its "fully equipped", comes with a HYMEN too =.= hidden inside the so called VAGINA (toilet paper roll)...

Then we hav a coca-cola FETUS inside the AMNIOTIC SAC... looks like a garbage bag :/

If u're asked to construct a PENIS... normally wat a guy will do? Of course we love making a BIG BIG rocket-style penis... hehehehehe... You sure u can take it? :P

Wanna know my group's question? We hav to construct a BREAST and explain the process of LACTATION... That's our breast... With a sharp bikini on it :D

During the presentation... That's me in RED overthere...

"The 1st step of breastfeeding... its to take off your bikini!" xD

Saw the RED NIPPLE? :P hahahahaha... We got the whole class LOL~

*174 - UPM Dogathon 2009

16082009 - Great event Vivi! (FYI, she the co-director of 2009 Dogathon)

Its the annual Dogathon again! The only event u'll see so many many dogs and perhaps human :/ gather together on the big big field of Bukit Expo UPM...

So... when i say many dogs... so wat kind of dogs? We have...

Wrinkled Dog! Very loud breathing bull dog =.= JFook named it as the Mutated one with combination of pig, cow, bull and bulldog and all the ugliest animals on earth... LOL...
The short legged-big tongue dog! Very cute football dog... He looks like wearing a football jersey :D
The Commando! From the Army of Canine, Malaysia... Dont ever let this dog follows u... He might carry a bomb :/
The cute-can-die shirt dog! Who says pets cannot hav pets? Now this dog got a teddy but u dont...
The pencil-box-sized dog! After estimation, i might be able to put in 10 pens and 1 highlighter in this dog... Hmmm...But so so cute who wanna do tat rite?
The baby-acting dog! So big d still need a baby chair... Shame shame~ See... The aunty also laughing at u... :D
Still many many dogs la...

There were games like the traditional music chair... playing in a non-traditional way... With dogs!
On the other side, they have this obstacle thingy for the dog... And this is the cutest yet obedient dog i'd seen tat day... In pink clothing somemore... Must be a girl!
There was this grooming booth... For those long hair dogs that needs a haircut...
And it can be very fashionable!
See! The dog beats u! And she even got some "ass hair style" LOL...

Im truly impressed with this one... The dog and the owner... Very well trained as trial dogs... Damn swift and did every part correctly! They got a lot of claps tat day... They earned mine too...
I actually so happy to see many young loving couple, bringing their dog for a walk in the beautiful morning of Sunday... How sweet it is... And all these dogs actually reminding me of my Neoneu...
Still remember him? My very obedient dog tat made my day during the lonely holidays... Miss him a lot... He a big guy now :)

I'll sure get a dog when i can afford one... And i'll pick Husky!

*170 - Boring Lectures Series: Episode 1

I'd decided to start a series of photo blog on boring lectures :D estimating 4 more sems of the same phenomena to go =.=

13082009

Well... introducing our endocrinology lecturer, Doraemon!
Okok... Not this one... we dont hav a round robot teaching us... Its a round human lecturer named Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dollah-ae-mon...
(The best shot i got for him edi...)

Here's how his class goes...
Dollah: Now... I write all my secret weapon exam tips on the board, and u just stare from up there ya...
Then he starts writing those tiny weeny bean sprouts tat no one could see... and explaining the science of travel machine tat no man could understand O.o

As a result, my fren, Ben had to deep meditate to seek answers from The Mighty Enlightened One... See how focus he is...
JZ on the other hand, was so stressed bout life due to the confusion by doraemon until he's wearing this "LiveStrong" band for refuge =.=
While Michelle is suffering migraine because doraemon lectures sound like a curse to her, and Kee had to use her inner energy to force out the dark spirit from within (which i found out its plain stupid since im sure the dark spirit will drown in her FATS)
Even the non-human human from his lecture notes frown...
Or mayb he dont like i take his photo eh?

But hey look... I found out tat our biomed Mama actually works for FBI... See her walkie-talkie earphone in her ear O.o
They must be trying to arrest the alien Doraemon... Oh well... Pity~

Conclusion: This post truly proved im so bored to death.. hehe :D

*165 - Extra Lecture To Share 1

30.07.2009

For the very 1st time i attended extra seminar and talk organized in my faculty, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM... A new breakthrough i guess...

It is a talk on prevention and control of H1N1 by Dr. Malina Osman from Microbiology and Parasitology Department of my faculty in the main lecture hall... i'll like to share some with u all here...

I complaint before on my previous post b4 tat a private hospital charge rm500 for a throat swab for h1n1 screening... and now i know why... The diagnosis of h1n1 is carried out by PCR or polymerase chain reaction... And those taq polymerase and restriction enzyme arent cheap at all... No doubt government also cant provide throat swab to every suspecting patients...

Next is about the vaccine that u read from the newspaper... Gov expecting it to be available in Malaysia at Nov... But according to Dr. Malina, it is just a vaccine for seasonal flu and its not a h1n1 specific vaccine... Thus we can say tat the effectiveness of the vaccine on h1n1 havent really established yet... Anyway, still better than none right?

Dr. Malina also said tat, recently, a research paper published that potential h1n1 vaccine had been discovered... The problem is by standard procedure from WHO, it needs 2 years to verify the safety of the vaccine... so i guess that when the vaccine got approved, we are having another type of flu edi... aiks...

A very bad news is now the hospitals are full of patients, with deprivation of tamiflu and manpower while our death toll is rising... As a reminder, prevention is better than cure... Go learn on H1N1 prevention for your own sake...

*144 - UPM h1n1 Shut Down

Happy Holiday!

Everything stops at 3pm today in Universiti Putra Malaysia due to H1N1 outbreak! We'd got 4 confirmed cases and 5 suspecting cases... And this number doesnt looks promising... And worst, one of the cases is from my faculty =.=

After the quaratine of UUM last few days... I just got to know that UKM too shut down yesterday... and now UPM's turn... so i guess the h1n1 is spreading fast now... Its time to get yourself a watermelon mask... lol...

I never know that my faculty got so many students b4... lol...

Judging on the peoples faces... Everyone seems very excited for the holiday including myself... lol...

The crowd fleeing away from the premises makes me thought of the scene in those games and movie... Imagine the building are wrapped in plastic with biohazard signs everywhere... And the building is left empty... like the movie "i am legend"... Cool man...

And the bad news is it got my exam schedule all messed up... Holy shit... Dont tell me we'll hav my test 1 together with my test 2... I'll die...

I got 1 week... Free and available to hang out... Any date? :D

*130 - Something To Be Proud Of From PROTON

Its from the “Proton Exora - The Making” seminar organized by SAE International last week in Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang... Introducing 2 very promising prototype from Proton:

1. Proton Saga EV Green Propulsion Concept
Its the 1st Electric Powerplant from Proton and proudly 100% home-grown in Malaysia! Its done by few unnamed local suppliers and partners. No emission, a total GREEN vehicle. This is a huge breakthrough for Proton...

Read more at http://paultan.org/archives/2009/07/16/proton-previews-the-proton-saga-ev-concept/

2. Proton Exora Prestige Turbo Prototype
Its an Turbo engine built here too without the input from Lotus. Its compiled from after-market turbo parts. It’s useful to test the durability and reliability of a Campro block when force inducted.

This is only what we really call Malaysia Boleh!

*122 - PA System Crew's Experience

In an event, a few of very-much-important-parts need to be take care of... They are the PA system, Lightings & Stage presentation and Emcee... These are the major things tat an audience will hear n see to evaluate an event...

Since im more on the PA system side... I'll share some of the basics tat needs attention... To make the event HEARS better...

I attended Biomed Idol just now... For a amateur in technical, im impressed with the performance they delivered... Mayb a few advice below can help them in the future...

1. PA system's technical personnel needs to be fully prepared on the songs... Every songs preferably from the computer... Since a song tat played from a cellphone n go through the mic totally sucks...

2. Choices of songs and music is also very important to ensure its appropriate for the agenda... Erm... For example, playing Don't Trust Me by 3Oh!3 for souvenir giving just dont feel appropriate...

3. Fade in and fade out is a basic technique tat should be applied on every songs... Cutting off music right away will sound weird to the audience... It like boom boom boom n suddenly everything went silence... i look at u u look at me tat kinda feel...

4. Wiring... Must be organised properly... Coz every connection shifting will effect the speaker... It may generate noise or piak piak sound which is not pleasant to ears... Try to minimise cable unplugging and plugging if possible... If cant prevent it... u'll hav to turn down the amplifier volume before doing so...

5. To make things sounds good, mic positioning is a very very important piece of art... Coz position of the mic on instrument is crucial to deliver the instruments sound into the system...

6. Last but not least... Channel volume balancing should be done correctly... A song cannot be all vocal but only can merely hear the music... or just the music and cant hear anything on the vocal... After some experience... u'll know when to put the songs in high volume, n when to slow it down...

Just a few more experience on technical then my biomed juniors are ready for the real stuff :) Everyone too learn from thier mistakes...

*115 - Matriculation: Only Ticket To The U?

What's after ur SPM? STPM? Please... No! Dont kill urself!

U know why im writing this post? Firstly, there are only a few STPM students getting into Biomed this year. Secondly, there's only one STPM student (indian) got enrolled into Medicine UPM. Third, there's only tiny winy no. of chinese in the first year... Where STPM goes? Where all the chinese goes?

As a STPM graduate, i can say tat its never easy to study STPM. If u scored well like 3.92 or 3.83, u still wont be able to get the course tat u wan... Even if u can prove urself to be so good in STPM by getting a 4.0, u still not guaranteed to get medicine... So why go for STPM at all? Its meaningless now...

STPM suppose to be the main path or the typical way to enter local university. And its standard used to stood high above any other examination in the world. But wat happen now is, with the same killer-paper, u hav to compete with the new system, called the Malaysian Matriculation =.= WTF

Something i dont understand here. A matric physic student is able to enroll himself into medicine program O.o Do u wan to be consult by a doctor tat actually only knows about chips and wires? The statistic of failed medicine students here is mostly from the Matric, mostly, go n check! Why is this happening? Do u smell something fishy on the Matric system?

I think i dont hav to cont. writing cause im sure it wont be heard by the MOE or some authorities. And only u and i, the students aware tat our local university standard will constantly be dropping while the rich will do better in private institution like IMU etc.

For u, my fellow juniors... Get into Matriculation and get a stupid 4.0 or leave to join the private college... Never dig ur own grave in STPM... Luckily im still not buried yet =.=

*113 - What if... Im a Proffesor?

It gotta be a huge blunder... See... i cant even spell "Professor" right O.o LoL
Im kinda curious what's the feeling to be on top of the world... Professors are highly respected and their achievements are recognized worldwide... Not to say they hav a very high pay, but their salary is enough to sustain a good lifestyle... With their proffesional attire and looks, carrying a PDA and hav a personal Apple Macbook, frankly tat's wat i wanna to be looked at...

From wat i see, the opportunity to travel worldwide and meet with all the academia is totally COOL... With all the challenge u'll meet on research, workplace politics etc... Im sure it will be just the right life for me...

Anyway, most Professors are kinda NUTS... As wat my fren Michelle wrote in her blog, they seems like having a unique culture of theirs which normal people thinks its abnormal... The recent encounter was my PAPA, as wat he adressed himself to be, Prof Dr Wan Omar and his fren tat rear parasites as pet...

My dad always say tat PHD is actually stands for Permanent Head Damage, and i believe somewhat its true :D I guesss its due to their self-confidence as a person on top of the world to see things differently and always think out of the box!

Surprisingly, i'd got the urge to try those kind of feel XD... What if... Im a Professor?

*102 - A New Academic Year Of 09/10

2007 - Got my 1st step into UPM... Being bullied as a freshie...
Of course the orientation was a fun one...

2008 - As a Pembantu University (PU)... Facilitating juniors orientation... Miss those good old moments...
And,
2009 - I'm laughing in the car staring at those stupid looking PU and the Freshies... LoL...
Im mean... XD
