*115 - Matriculation: Only Ticket To The U?

What's after ur SPM? STPM? Please... No! Dont kill urself!

U know why im writing this post? Firstly, there are only a few STPM students getting into Biomed this year. Secondly, there's only one STPM student (indian) got enrolled into Medicine UPM. Third, there's only tiny winy no. of chinese in the first year... Where STPM goes? Where all the chinese goes?

As a STPM graduate, i can say tat its never easy to study STPM. If u scored well like 3.92 or 3.83, u still wont be able to get the course tat u wan... Even if u can prove urself to be so good in STPM by getting a 4.0, u still not guaranteed to get medicine... So why go for STPM at all? Its meaningless now...

STPM suppose to be the main path or the typical way to enter local university. And its standard used to stood high above any other examination in the world. But wat happen now is, with the same killer-paper, u hav to compete with the new system, called the Malaysian Matriculation =.= WTF

Something i dont understand here. A matric physic student is able to enroll himself into medicine program O.o Do u wan to be consult by a doctor tat actually only knows about chips and wires? The statistic of failed medicine students here is mostly from the Matric, mostly, go n check! Why is this happening? Do u smell something fishy on the Matric system?

I think i dont hav to cont. writing cause im sure it wont be heard by the MOE or some authorities. And only u and i, the students aware tat our local university standard will constantly be dropping while the rich will do better in private institution like IMU etc.

For u, my fellow juniors... Get into Matriculation and get a stupid 4.0 or leave to join the private college... Never dig ur own grave in STPM... Luckily im still not buried yet =.=

Well, I do have a different view on this matter...

As for me, STPM is recognised worldwide.. So what if you don't get your place in local uni, don't restrict yourself to only local market... Go out and apply for overseas uni... Many of my STPM frens did and they managed to enroll themselves into many renowed overseas uni like NUS, NTU, HKUST and some even got uni in Australia with scholarship and loans... On the other hand, those who enrolled themselves with Malaysian Matriculation I'm sure they only thought about entering local uni... Bcs frm experience, I did applied for overseas uni as well and for M'sia, they only recognised STPM...

So my advise to juniors who's going for STPM, don't afraid to try... Last tym my pointer is only 3.83 and I managed to secure an entry in NTU (rank 69 in year 2007) while local uni ranked abt 200+ that time but due to many reasons, i've finally given up my place in NTU...

There are still room of improvement for the recruitment of STPM students into local uni but at the same time, there are always choices or alternatives that you can opt for...

I know u'r going to say I'm so obsessed with going abroad again and I admit bcs u'll have different exposure from outside... That's what I always believe

u got ur point of view... but wat if u look at a bigger picture?

Im sure tat ur community of frens and ur school are considered quite elite... with some rich ppl tat are able to spend their money overseas... Now... reconsider this statement as how many percentage of STPM student were given this opportunity?

Ppl opt to cont on government schooling plan is mostly because of the budget... or some dunno wat to do aftertat yet... and between matric n STPM, STPM will do nothing good in securing ur place in uni but Matric will (with decent score u'll get ur degree)...

Yes... STPM is recognised worldwide... think about it.. if u can afford n already planning to go overseas, then y still go for STPM? get a Cambridge A-level instead... if u know u cant afford... n to choose between Matric n STPM to enter local U, then tat's wat i suggest to juniors, get a MAtric n stop digging own grave in STPM... dont u think so?

if u manage to get a chance to know where each n every STPM students end up... only 20, or mayb 25% ended up cont in local uni... but wat's the statistic for Matric? Almost everyone gets to get a degree...

Thus, as i said, go matric if u wanna go local uni... if u can afford and plan to go overseas... go get an A-level... with my SPM result of 10as im already be able to get 100% scholarship on A-level, if u insist on saving pre-u budget... then u go private... no point to kill urself in the tough exam paper n ended up overseas also dun wanna accept u...

ps: frankly, if u get a cambridge a-level, singapore will love u more :)

Matriculation is sucks I got to say.First, is the exam system in Matrics. First Sem Physical Chem and Second Sem Organic and Inorganic Chem. Hello, so much difference ar. And STPM leavers are so so so much mature than the Matric Students. What I wanna highlight here is what we have gone through and experienced within these two years. It's so much different from Matriculation. Those from Matriculation are very immature. That's why I don't want to take Matric First Year as my buddy. Um..Sorry..Michelle, I got to say I disagree with you. If you initially had the plan to study abroad, why not just fly to oversea or choose the private U or college that you want after Form 5?? You can take A-levels or Foundations. They are being recognized worldwide as well. Why torturing ourselves for two years??

Yeah... Matric system just sucks... Something i dont understand though... wat is the factor tat actually contribute to the immature-ness of Matric student? environment? or?

But like it or not... Matric students is those who going to local uni and STPM students are those who are dead somewhere... Wondering wat's our local uni standard in mayb 5 more years? =.=

For ur information, the number of students enrolling in STPM this year is a bounce back compare to the batch who enter uni recently.
